This weekend, Melbourne’s most fashionable bike riders will take a leisurely ride along the bay and take in the sunshine for the first Tweed Ride of 2012.
After the resounding success of the last event in November 2011, the group of immaculately dressed riders will bring their cycle style to Melbourne’s bayside suburbs.
Riders will assemble at St Kilda’s Catani Gardens at noon, bound for Port Melbourne’s newest venue - Little Rose Cafe at Rose Diner and Bar on Bay St.
Run by ex-Little Creatures’ Ash Cranston and former Royal Saxon Hotel Manager Steed Sheriff, has a new fit out and an old menu with a twist, specialising in homely fare of days gone by including waffles and milkshakes.
Pimms and cucumber sandwiches will be the order of the day though, with afternoon tea refreshments sure to bring welcome relief after the exertion of the ride.
The pairing of Little Rose and Tweed Ride is a nostalgic marriage made in heaven. The international Tweed Ride phenomenon is a nod to the days when ladies and gentlemen on bikes sported plus fours and stockings, waistcoats and hats. And though the hats may have been replaced by helmets, the event has lost none of its charm.
